What type of PCR test does Curative provide?

Beginning July 15, 2021, Curative will offer two types of RT-PCR tests for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 on shallow nasal swabs.

Curative Labs, at its discretion, may run either type of RT-PCR test on a patient sample. Patients will continue to receive sample results within 24-48 hours upon receipt at the lab.

Curative offers the two RT-PCR Tests for SARS-CoV-2 Assay

1)     The Abbott Alinity m SARS-CoV-2 Assay is a real-time reverse transcriptase (RT) polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test intended for the qualitative detection of nucleic acid from SARS-CoV-2 in nasal swabs, self-collected at a health care location. Results are for the identification of SARS-CoV-2 RNA. The SARS-CoV-2 RNA is generally detectable in respiratory specimens during the acute phase of infection. This test is only for use under the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Emergency Use Authorization (EUA). For more information about the performance & intended use of the Abbott Alinity m please see the following EUA, patient factsheet, and provider factsheet

2)     Curative also performs a CLIA-validated test based on the CDC SARS-CoV-2 multiplex assay, a real-time reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test that detects RNA from SARS-CoV-2 in upper or lower respiratory specimens. The test has been optimized to be performed on the BioRad CFX Real-Time PCR detection system.  This SARS-CoV-2 PCR test was developed and its performance characteristics were determined by Curative Labs. This test has not been cleared, approved, or authorized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Curative Labs is certified under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA) as qualified to perform high complexity clinical laboratory testing.

What is a PCR test?

PCR tests look for pieces of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, in the nose, throat, or other areas in the respiratory tract to determine if the person has an active infection.  PCR tests use a machine, called a thermal cycler, an instrument used to amplify RNA samples by the polymerase chain reaction in order to obtain a result from the sample. The Curative PCR test is self-administered nasally.

The PCR test may be called a molecular test, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), RT-PCR, nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT), or LAMP test.
